CJ KOOME LAUNCHES ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION CENTRE

The Chief Justice said the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators ought to take up an advocacy and public awareness role to educate Kenyans on the benefits of ADR.  

Koome added that the public must be made to realise that "we can all be agents of justice and that justice does not lie solely in the courtrooms."

Chief Justice Martha Koome has called for the use of multi-door approach in a bid to attain dispute resolution. 

Koome spoke on Tuesday at the launch of a dispute resolution centre. 

The Chief Justice said the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators ought to take up an advocacy and public awareness role to educate Kenyans on the benefits of Alternative Dispute Resolution processes. 

"I urge the adoption of a multi-door approach to disputes resolution as commanded by the Constitution, which directs those alternative forms of dispute resolution including reconciliation, mediation, arbitration and traditional dispute resolution mechanisms be promoted," Koome said. 

The CJ added that the public must be made to realise that "we can all be agents of justice and that justice does not lie solely in the courtrooms."

Koome said the move by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators to set up an Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, is testimony to the fact that the institute is growing in vibrancy and is well positioned as a center of excellence in arbitration and mediation processes.
